Tip of the Month

February

High temperature and relative humidity

e-mul-sion: A photosensitive coating, usually of silver halide grains in a thin gelatin layer, on photographic film, paper, or glass.

The emulsion layer of a photograph is made up of organic materials, including gelatin. These amterials make the emulsion susceptible to mold and fungi – especially when subject to the combination of heat and moisture. Photographs should be stored in a cool, dry place – below about 68º Fahrenheit and under 50% relative humidity.
